Choice: Unused Vintage 1930s-40s-50s Linen Postcard Set California Portland Nebraska New Mexico Madison Grand Canyon Omaha
Postcard packets featuring collections of location-themed images (typically 18 images on a thinner, 9-panel accordion-style panel of paper) enveloped in a brightly colored linen cover were a common souvenir in the 1930s-1950s — the first versions could be mailed at the postcard rate of 1 1/2 cents.
We are excited to share the visual goodness that came with the discovery of more than a dozen unused such packets. Each is in very good vintage condition with only minor creasing and wear around the envelope edges.
Linen postcards are easily identified by a woven-looking surface texture and are made using a high rag content paper (i.e. contains a certain amount of cotton fiber). Two key traits of linen postcards are their saturated colors and soft focus, both of which lend a dream-like quality to their images.
