I've been scrounging through the detritus of lifetime estates for more than a decade now, rescuing both the obscure and the mundane of years gone by. I can't seem to help myself: after reading The Boxcar Children, six-year-old me could not forget the magic of turning dump-found treasures into the trappings of home (even home in a box car, as it were). Somehow, it's become both a calling and a talent to pull just the right parts and pieces to evoke a mood, a time, and/or a way of being in the world.

If you're working on a theatre or film set, a commissioned piece or project, or a highly curated environment rich in visual history, chances are good I've got the ephemeral details you want and need.

Working with me cuts down on the time costs to hunt and gather: when your time is better spent selling, concepting, and/or assembling, my ability to nail the details will be an asset to your project - and your clients will appreciate our environmentally ethical backstory: everything here is strategically secondhand -- down to the packaging and supplies I'll use to pack and ship your order).

Step 1. You: initiate the working relationship with a brief introductory message. Give me your vision: your character, their setting, the mood & decade. Timeline and budget are helpful, but not immediately necessary (unless your timeline already involves overnight shipping...in which case, let's connect for a different project).

Step 2. I: respond to your message: if I have access to the goods you're seeking, I'll confirm that a consult would make sense!

Step 3. You: purchase this listing to initiate the consult process. This payment will be directly creditable to your custom order.

Step 4. We: connect by text or phone to hammer out the details of your project: timing, goals, constraints.

Step 5. I: gather items that match my understanding of your project's requirements, and send you a link to photos of applicable product.

Step 6. You: review these photos, take and mark-up screen shots (circling your selected items and offering additional direction as necessary), and send these markups to me.

Step 7. I: gather your selects and determine/communicate preliminary weight & cost.

Step 8. (new clients). I: will create a custom product listing after the first round of selects to get the order started, establish a ship date, and apply the discount. Once you've completed payment for this, I'll conduct up to two more rounds of photos/reviews before finalizing the shipment, securing payment, and getting things off to you.

Step 8. (returning clients): I: will repeat steps 5 & 6 with you as necessary until we have pulled together your order. Then, I will set up the custom product listing for you, and will ship once payment has been received.

My pricing is as follows:
-$250/pound for hand-selected ephemera, prorated to .01 pounds. It may be sticker shock - but it's also high touch, highly specific product: much like shopping the co-op bulk aisle, you get exactly what you need, and as much as you need, without buying more than you need. Not sure about these economics? Google 'how to harvest saffron.' ;)

I also offer a 20% discount on any stock products you might choose to add to a curated order of $50 or more.

I look forward to connecting!

Julie

  • Shipping

    • 100% secondhand packaging

    • intentionally slow in-house service levels

    • ground shipping only

This is climate-competent commerce, and we talk a bit more about each of these strategies on our 'official' shipping policy page:

    The Fine Print
  • Proactive Satisfaction + Refunds

We have adopted a 'generally generous' approach to fulfilling many of our product listings, as sending a wee bit extra can avoid costly errors & 'fix it' shipments (besides, we find most folks appreciate the occasional freebie).

    .

That said, if you would prefer to avoid the extras, we will gladly rightsize or downsize your order on request (product price would remain the same because more labor + less product = wash). If you prefer this option, please include a detailed order note to specify the quantity you wish to recieve (i.e. 'please send precise count of 7 for XYZ product').

    .

As a rule, we discourage returns - but we also don't abide crappy customer experiences. To initiate issue resolution in the event that we miss the boat with your order (gaps happen!), head to our refund policy page (linked here - and at the bottom of any page) to get started.
